How Would You Improve Amazon?

Published April 9, 2014 by paulandpaulasbooks

Excellent thoughts on revamping the rating system

Imagine you suddenly have the job of Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon. Well, even then, you couldn’t do anything you wanted.

So let’s go a step further and grab a magic wand. That’s better. Now you can do anything. Wave your wand a couple of times to test it out.

If you could do it, what would you change at Amazon in order to improve it?

Don’t be selfish here. Don’t just think about bad reviews that you’d like to make vanish or advertisements for your book if you’re an author, or how to make products free for you as a consumer.

I’m not asking how you would make Amazon better for you alone. I’m asking how you would make Amazon better for everyone.

Not just customers. Giving everything away for free would greatly benefit the customers. For a few days, until the company went bankrupt. If you want Amazon…

Jerri Hines colleen connelly picture for interview

I contacted Jerri Hines asking her if she also was Colleen Connally.  Of course she answered in the affirmative and then asked me why I asked.  My reply was “I’m a fan!”  I had bought her novel Fragmented several months ago and had just been able to bring it up to the top of my Kindle file. To me, Fragmented is a Suspense Thriller Romance Murder Mystery as it had all those elements and kept me pushing  that button forward on my Kindle rather than turning off my light for sleep.  I talked Jerri into an impromptu interview and asked if she would mind doffing her Colleen Connally persona.

 Paula:

I am enjoying your story, Fragmented (Boston Crimes of Passion, Bk 1) which has all the twists and turns one expects from the television show, Criminal Minds.

What is the back story, that is, what was the trigger for this plot?

Colleen Connally

You have a sister who will do anything to protect her brother. She crosses the line when she destroys evidence. What she doesn’t realize is that someone is watching her every move and the danger she is in.

I have a major promo starting on Thursday, April third on Fragmented. I’m so happy you are enjoying it. This is the book I’m giving away half my royalties. I’m hoping it does well. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Paula

How did the plot come to you? I have a relative and several friends with schizophrenia, and a husband with dementia caused by an accident, but resulting in the same as if Alzheimers, so I love stories that deal with the mind, particularly a mind that is not normal for society.

Colleen Connally

It was a combination of a lot of things. I read a book on multiple personalities. Although extremely rare, it gave me an insight into what would make a person break off into different personas. Also, the question of how far someone would go to protect a loved one has always intrigued me.

A long time ago, I went to a writers’ conference and the keynote speaker, I believe his name was Maass, said ‘What’s the worst thing your antagonist must do? Make it against his/her principles. Make it unthinkable. Then make it imperative.’ It’s been my motto ever since.

Paula

I am almost finished with the story, Fragmented and am hoping there is a number two waiting for me.

Colleen Connally

At some point this year, I’m hoping to have Book Two of the series, Boston’s Crimes of Passion. I don’t have a date yet.

Paula

Oh, dear. Well, I guess I will need to move over and read something else of yours. Do you have other series, and if so, share names, please.

Colleen Connally

Under Colleen Connally, I have a historical romance series, Secret Lives which consists of Seductive Secrets, Broken Legacy, and Seductive Lies.

I also write under Jerri Hines which includes my historical fiction series, Winds of Betrayal The Cry For Freedom, Embrace of the Enemy, Kiss of Deceit and coming in May, The Heavens Shall Fall.

I have a series with Whiskey Creek Press, Tides of Charleston The Judas Kiss, The Promise and Another Night Falls.

Under Carrie James Haynes I have a fantasy series, Whispers of A Legend.

Paula

This is so fantastic! I like when I find an author that moves the plot and keeps me rooted and interested in reasons and outcome, that they have more in which I can indulge. I tend to gobble authors.

Colleen Connally

As do I! There’s nothing I enjoy more than getting caught up in a good book and discovering the author has more that I can read!

Paula

My kids gave me a kindle a few years ago, but it was only recently I was able to get a connection in my home enabling me to charge and read. Now I am devouring stories at night in bed – please tell me some, if not all your books are in e-book form as well as print.

Colleen Connally

All my books are e-books; most are in print. I love my kindle. Live off of it!

Paula

Would throw my hat in the air in joy if I was wearing one! This is great news.

Colleen Connally

You’re so kind!

Paula

I just tend to get really exuberant when I find what I consider a blessing – I have Lymph edema, so anything with weight causes problems – even a paperback that weights almost less than nothing. The Kindle truly is one of the best gifts I ever received.

 Colleen Connally

I didn’t realize that you had Lymph edema. I’m so glad that the Kindle works for you. It is so light and easy to carry and use.

Paula

Yes, I am happy with that aspect of the Kindle, too.

Let’s go back to Fragmented. I know you gave basically a synopsis and you mentioned this story is going to be doing some charitable giving. Would you tell me about that?

Colleen Connally

I’m so happy to be able to donate half my royalties to The One Fund here in Boston. I was deeply touched by the Boston Marathon Bombing last year. I know that some of the victims have life long injuries. Giving half my royalties is my small way of remembering the victims.fragmented pix

Paula

That is a great remembrance. I find that giving is getting more in return than you give. Touching people with kindness is so unexpected in today’s society. I already have a copy of your book, but I’m going to buy another one for my son who introduced me to his Kindle and it was instant love.

Colleen Connelly

Thank you so much. I believe in giving back. My Southern roots I suppose.

Paula

Just one more question. Where is the promo for Fragmented featured and where will we find it to buy?

Colleen Connally

Fragmented will be on Book Bub on Thursday, April 3. You can also catch up with me on my website. It explains what I’m up to… http://jerrihines.org/ Thanks so much. I so appreciate this.

Paula

Thank you, Jerri  for letting me put you into an impromptu sit down as Colleen Connally
